What we believe

ACCEPTING JESUS

The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8).  These two ingredients are key to understanding the Christian faith and knowing God.

God has shown us grace by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross.  He was buried in the tomb and rose again after three days.  This loving act of God was done so that our sins could be forgiven and our relationship with God could be made right.

Through whole-hearted devotion to Jesus, faith is our connection to God's grace.  It begins when the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and directs us to follow Jesus as Lord.  By faith, we humbly submit to God and choose to follow Him.  In the Bible, we see how followers of Christ respond in faith to God's grace.  We must heed these New Testament teachings in accepting and following Jesus as our Lord in faith:

Believe in Jesus
The Bible teaches that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life (John 3:16).  This is not a mere recognition of Christ, but an obedient following (James 2:19).

Repent Before Jesus
The followers of Christ change their lives when they encounter Jesus.  They don't live the same as their old way of life.  They are a new creation that lives differently (Acts 2:38; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Be Baptized into Jesus
Each follower, at an age of comprehension in understanding who Jesus is, should make their own decision to be baptized into Christ.  The word baptize means to immerse into water.  Just as Jesus was buried and raised again, so is the follower completely buried and raised again to a new life (Romans 6:4)  At baptism, God promises to give us the gift of the Holy Spirit and to cleanse us of out sins through the blood of Jesus (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; Galatians 3:27; 1Peter 3:21).

Confess Jesus
Committed followers of Christ are willing to confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  They freely acknowledge their commitment to follow, obey and serve Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9-10).

GROWING IN JESUS

We at THCC believe that Christians should be in a continual, growing relationship with Christ.  1Peter 2:2 says, "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation..." Christian growth comes about by several actions on the part of the follower:

1.  Humble submission to Christ as Lord, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us spiritually.

2.  Personal devotion to Christ through regular prayer and Bible study.

3.  Regular fellowship and worship in Christ's Church.

COMMITTED TO JESUS

As followers of Christ and members of His Church, we believe that Christians should be willing to be deeply committed to Jesus.  This dedication to Jesus is revealed by the following:

1.  We are moral examples.  We hold each other accountable in being morally pure before God.  We are salt and light to others who do not know Jesus (Matthew 5:13-16)

2.  We are willingly involved.  The Bible teaches that we all have spiritual gifts that edify the body of Christ (1Corinthians 12).  Committed Christians ask, "How can I serve in Jesus' Church?"

3.  We are generous givers.  Both the giving of time and money are attributes of the committed Christian.  The follower of Jesus makes sacrifices in order to advance the Kingdom of God.  Each member should be willing to give of themselves in Christ's Church (Matthew 6:19-21; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15).
